What is an unconference?

TransportCamp flips the traditional conference model. There are no keynote slots booked months ahead — participants shape the day together.

How the day works

  1. 1

    Morning board

Arrive, introduce yourself, and propose session topics on the communal agenda board.

  2. 2

    Vote on sessions

Everyone votes on which topics matter most. The schedule takes shape in real time.

  3. 3

    Run your session

Facilitate a discussion, workshop, case study or idea pitch — format is up to you.

  4. 4

    Afternoon wrap

Close with shared reflections, then continue the conversation over drinks.

Who comes

TransportCamp attracts a deliberately mixed room: transport planners and policy makers, researchers and students, technologists and data specialists, operators and consultants, and community advocates working on mobility, accessibility and liveability.

You do not need to be an expert speaker — curiosity and willingness to contribute are enough.

Who organises TransportCamp

TransportCamp is co-organised by CrowdLab with Movement in Place Consulting. Together they bring transport planning, engagement and event delivery experience from years of running unconferences across Australia.

History

Since the inaugural Melbourne event in 2014, TransportCamp has grown into a national series across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Each city brings its own transport challenges; the unconference format stays the same — open, collaborative and participant-led.
